Biomechanical assessments

A biomechanical assessment is where we analyse your body’s movements when standing or walking.

It’s a thorough assessment for anyone – sporty or not – who might be suffering from hip, knee, ankle or foot pain.

What types of issues can we assess?

We can assess and develop a treatment plan for many lower limb issues, including:

  • bunions
  • foot arch pain
  • plantar fasciitis
  • sports injuries
  • pain in the ball of your foot (metatarsalgia)
  • any lower limb pain (including hip, shin, knee or ankle)

What will happen during your biomechanical assessment?

During your assessment, your podiatrist will take a holistic view of the way your joints, muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments all work together. This will enable them to check for the possible cause of your pain.

A biomechanical assessment involves examining your lower limb as a whole, from your hip and thigh, down to your knee and foot. We look at how your bones and muscles are connected, and how they work together to produce movement (known as the kinetic chain).

Your podiatrist will talk to you about any external factors that might be causing your condition. This might include looking at your activity level (such as walking and playing sport), and looking at your footwear, including your trainers.

Once we understand the history of your problem and have identified your aims and goals, we will work with you to develop an effective treatment plan.

Following your assessment, treatments may include orthotics (insoles) or specific exercises.

How much does it cost?

Biomechanical assessment (60 minutes) – £110
